Setup time is a proxy for product fit. The right tool for your scale takes minutes; the wrong tool takes weeks.
Setup time by tool category
| Tool type | Setup | First patient record |
|---|---|---|
| Vaidya OS (clinic OS) | 10 min | 15 min |
| Other clinic OS tools | 30-60 min | ~1 hour |
| Aggregator-tied practice mgmt | 2-4 hours | Same day |
| Hospital EMR (Halemind, Medixcel) | 2-4 weeks | 3-6 weeks (post-training) |
| Custom-built EMR | 3-12 months | Variable |
What "setup" actually involves
- Sign up + verify (1-3 min).
- Clinic profile: name, address, phone, logo (3-5 min).
- Doctor profile: name, registration, signature (2-3 min).
- One prescription template for your most common condition (3-5 min).
- Print and stick the QR code at your reception (1 min).
Total: ~10-15 minutes. Everything else can be added as you go.
Why hospital EMR takes weeks
- Module configuration for departments you don't have (radiology, lab, pharmacy, IPD).
- User role hierarchies (doctor / consultant / nurse / receptionist / admin).
- HL7/FHIR integration with hospital systems.
- 3-7 days of staff training.
- Data migration from legacy systems.
None of this is wrong — for a hospital. For a solo clinic, every hour spent on setup is an hour not seeing patients.
