What Google Business Profile posts can and cannot do for a clinic, post ideas for doctors, what to leave out, and how to fit it into ten minutes a week.

    In This Article

When patients near you search for a doctor, your clinic's Google Business Profile is often the first thing they see: name, timings, photos, reviews. Google also lets you add short updates to that profile. A recent, useful update tells a patient the clinic is open and active, and it answers a question before they call.

This guide explains what Google Business Profile posts are, what they can and cannot do for a clinic, what to post, and how to fit it into ten minutes a week.

    In short:
    • Posts are short updates on your clinic's Google profile, shown on Search and Maps.
    • They help patients, but they are not a shortcut to ranking. A complete profile and genuine reviews matter more.
    • Post timings, notices and health education. No offers, discounts or claims of cures.
    • Keep phone numbers out of the post text; the profile already has a Call button.

What are Google Business Profile posts?

A post is a short update, usually a few lines of text with a photo, that you add from your Google Business Profile. It can appear on your profile when people find your clinic on Google Search and Google Maps. You can add a button to it, for example to your website or booking page.

What posts can and cannot do

Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence (how well known a place is), and that reviews and ratings play a part (how Google ranks local results). Posts are not listed as a ranking shortcut, so do not expect a jump in calls just from posting.

What posts do well is help the patient who has already found you: they show the clinic is active, tell people about a holiday or new timings, and answer common questions. The bigger levers are a complete, accurate profile and a steady flow of genuine reviews. See our guide to setting up your clinic's Google profile.

    What to post

    • Clinic notices: holiday closures, changed timings, a new doctor joining, a new service.
    • Seasonal health tips: short and general, such as safe water in the monsoon or fluids in the heat. See seasonal health tips for patients.
    • Health awareness days: for example World Diabetes Day on 14 November, with one practical line.
    • How to visit: how booking works, what to bring, where to park.

Examples written by Vaidya OS to show the style (illustrations, not a real clinic):

    • "The clinic is closed on Monday for the festival. We are open again from Tuesday at the usual time."
    • "Monsoon tip: drink boiled or filtered water and empty standing water around your home once a week. If a fever lasts more than two days, see a doctor."
    • "Coming for a follow-up? Please bring your old prescriptions and any recent reports."

    What not to post

    • Offers and discounts. Google has an offer post type, but the Indian Medical Council Regulations 2002 forbid doctors from soliciting patients (regulation 6.1.1). Discounts on consultations are best left out. See Are doctors allowed to advertise in India? (general information, not legal advice).
    • Claims of cures or results, "best doctor" wording, and before-and-after photos.
    • Anything that could identify a patient, including photos taken in the clinic with patients in view.
    • Phone numbers in the text. Posts with phone numbers in them can be rejected, and in our experience this can cause bigger problems with a profile. Use the Call button instead.

How often, and how long it takes

One post a week is a comfortable habit for most clinics, and a post for every change in timings. Write a month of posts in one sitting, check them, then add one each week. That is about ten minutes a week.

The rest of your profile matters more

    • Complete every field: the right category, exact address, timings, phone, website and photos.
    • Get genuine reviews: ask every patient the same way and never offer anything in return. See how to get more Google reviews.
    • Reply to reviews politely, without confirming anyone is your patient.
    • Link a website where patients can check details and book.
